I recently bought the Fujifilm X100VI, a small compact single lens camera that I found perfect for my daily carry and specially traveling. I know that most people think that this camera is overhyped and to be straight with you, I kind of also think that. I love the ergonomics, the vintage look it has, but quality wise…it’s something you could find in other cameras for the same price or even less.
This is not a review post so let’s get straight to it.

Usually I don’t have the opportunities to spend my mornings taking photos, but due to a slow work day the slot opened up and I decided to visit Wachusett Reservoir. Since it’s a reservoir, it can be difficult to reach a open space that gives you access to the water, at least to my knowledge, but thankfully there were trails that lead to the waterfront side.

After walking for 15-20 minutes I finally reached the waterfront. The rain had calmed down from pouring to drizzling.

I absolutely loved the way this one came out. The pattern of the plants contouring the sand and the hazy fog hiding away the island behind.
My Photo Settings
I shot mostly on f/8. I left the Shutter Speed and ISO on AUTO and manually changed the aperture. My Shutter Speed on AUTO won’t go below 1/160th of a second so I don’t risk getting blurry photos.

I love Black and White Photography, sometimes colors distract the viewers from the structure of the scene. B&W adds contrast and makes the photograph more dramatic. I’m still learning when and when not to integrate B&W in my photos but overall they always look great in this style. I even have to hold myself to not shoot everything this way.

Love the structure of this one, the bush is in the center but the background is forming different shapes, triangles to be specific. Subjects that are alone in a place always spark curiosity, a sense of isolation. Questions like “why?” or “how?” are what makes good photographs into great ones.

I spent around 2 hours alongside the coast of the lake walking, looking at the scenery searching for compositions. After my hands were numb and the camera was so wet it started concerning me, I headed back.

Overall a successful morning, the photos came out better than I imagined. A great way to test the Fuji x100vi and its capabilities. I’m working on a 6 months review so stay tuned for that.
